Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry
Introduction:
1980: A mass spectrometer Micromass 1200 was imported and then the first Chinese Ar-Ar laboratory was established by Professor Tongmo Dai in Guiyang, SW China.
1988: Ar-Ar progressive crushing technique for dating fluid inclusions was established by Hua-Ning Qiu.
1990: The Micromass 1200 laboratory was removed to Guangzhou (Canton), South China.
2004: A new Ar-Ar laboratory, with a 5400Ar mass spectrometer, an MIR10-50W CO2 laser, a UP-213 UV ablation laser and a crushing apparatus, was established in Guangzhou by Dr. Hua-Ning Qiu.
Instrument: GV Instruments 5400Ar mass spectrometer
Ar-Ar dating techniques:
1. IR-laser stepwise heating: MIR10-50W CO2 laser (New Wave Research)
2. UV-laser microprobe: UP-213 ablation laser (New Wave Research)
3. Crushing in vacuo: Dating fluid inclusions of the K-poor minerals.
Prof. Dr. Huaning Qiu is the responsible scientist for the Ar-Ar laboratory.
